As an artist working at home, my wife and I have a unique relationship. We are together 24/7 and enjoy each others company all the time. You would have to know my wife, she is quite the lively one and lights up a room when she comes in, and she makes life very interesting. In my painting “Companions,” I’ve portrayed Bonnie and me a century ago, in what I dream would start out as romantic ride out in the country where along the way we would have a whole lot of discussion regarding our kids, our future, our farm, and the direction our nation is going. We would end up giving each other a big hug, I’d say, “It’s going to be alright,” and she would respond, “as long as I’m with you.” That pretty much sums up “Companions.”

Valley of Shadows — New Painting by Mark Keathley!

As you may be able to tell by the title, Mark is releasing a new painting in February called Valley of Shadows. It is a beautiful snow image with some very soulful looking wolves in the foreground and a few teepees hiding in the back.  Call me to pre-order a copy today!

“It is interesting how paintings take on a life of their own. Originally, I simply wanted to create a wolf painting with tepees in the back ground. It wasn’t long, however, until the deeper meaning of this painting became clear to me and my wife – “There is peace and rest to be found in the midst of darkness and danger.” Our hope is that you experience this peace even if you, too, find yourself in the Valley of Shadows. Psalm 4:8 reads: “In Peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You, Lord, alone make me dwell in safety and confident trust.”

~ Mark and Bonnie Keathley

A Beautiful New Gallery

Have you been in to see us at the Lamplight Gallery lately? If so, you might have noticed it looks a bit different inside. If not, well… allow me to enlighten you. We have been working tirelessly over the past couple of weeks to rearrange, reorganize, and just generally redo every single wall in the gallery. It’s so different that we have had people who have been coming here for years stop by and say, “Wow, I didn’t think this was the same place. It looks great!” It is the same place with the same friendly staff. We’ve just had a bit of a facelift. I’ve taken some pictures to share with you–although they don’t really do the artwork justice. Unfortunately, lighting that makes the gallery look good doesn’t help so much for pictures. However, if you see anything you need to hang on your wall, give us a call at 1-800-736-2087 and ask for Chastidyi. I will be happy to help you give your home a fresh new feel by adding a touch of art to your walls.

How to Clean your Giclee Canvas Print

We carry giclee prints published by different companies which means they may require slightly different handling techniques depending on the artist.

Prints by Thomas Kinkade and Mark Keathley are fairly durable. They are sprayed with a special UV clear coat that protects the canvas’s colors from fading from UV light. This also puts an extra layer over the pigments so they are harder to damage. For these prints, you should be able to use a clean damp cloth without damaging the image.

For prints by the majority of our other artists, you need to be more careful. They are very delicate and completely intolerant to water and moisture. They should be handled as carefully as you would handle an original watercolor taking special care to avoid any contact with water or mist. Please make certain that your hands are clean, dry and oil-free before touching it. (Perspiration on your hands or fingers will damage the image.) For these, you should be able to use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, electrostatic dust cloth, or feather duster without damaging your image. Be sure to dust lightly so as not to scratch the image.

If this doesn’t answer your questions regarding cleaning your giclee canvas print, please give us a call or send us an email.

We take no responsibility for and damage incurred by use or misuse of this advice.

Painting of the Day — Twilight in Central Park by Rod Chase

You may already be familiar with Rod Chase’s work. He is a nationally known artist and has his paintings in galleries all over the country. He paints in a style called photorealism. “Photorealism is the genre of painting based on using the camera and photographs to gather information and then from this information creating a painting that appears photographic.” (Wikipedia).

In Twilight in Central Park, the bridge makes a stunning focal point. Then, the water leads your eye to the beautiful buildings in the background. The color palate is minimal and consists of mostly greys, browns, whites, blacks, and blues. This combines to create a very soft, romantic feel to the painting. When combined with our Ansel Black frame, it creates a very striking image.

Right now, the only sizes/editions we have left of this image are:

9″ x 12″ Open Edition  $60 unframed / $190 framed

24″ x 36″ International Edition   $575 unframed / $895 framed

Untitled Original Oil Painting by Borgetti

If you enjoy original works of art but don’t have tons of cash stored away somewhere, a relatively unknown artist is going to be your best bet to be able to afford an original piece of artwork. Being unknown does not mean that their work is not every bit as good as a well known artist. It just means that they haven’t been made famous worldwide although they may be well known to certain collectors. One such artist is Borgetti.

It doesn’t show up as well online as it does in person, but Borgetti’s artwork is full of bright colors and impasto (thick) paint. In fact, the texture of her pieces is just as interesting as the subject matter. I find her work so interesting that I had to purchase one of her  36×36 pieces for my home.

If you like her style, take advantage of the great sale price we have on this painting and give me a call–just ask for Chastidyi. 1-800-736-2087.

Originally $765, this 24 x 24 unframed original painting is now on sale for $459 (40% off the original price).
